As of November 5, The Equity has expanded from eight to twelve pages. This marks a major step forward for the paper as we continue investing in local journalism and community connection. The added space gives us room to include more stories, more photos, and more of what matters to our readers. It’s a reflection of the growing engagement we’ve seen over the past year and our ongoing effort to make The Equity a true reflection of life in the Pontiac.
Among the new features is a weekly crossword puzzle, adding a bit of fun and challenge to every issue. Once a month, the crossword will be locally themed, using clues and references taken directly from the pages of The Equity. It’s a small but meaningful way to celebrate our region’s people, places, and stories, and to reward readers who know their Pontiac history and community well.
Our “The Way We Were” feature has also been expanded, with more photos pulled from The Equity’s extensive photo library. Each week, readers will see a new photo that capture the spirit of our past — the familiar faces, buildings, and moments that continue to define our communities. This addition strengthens one of the most loved parts of the paper and deepens our commitment to preserving and sharing local history.
We’re also introducing a new Community Events Calendar, which lists upcoming events submitted by readers across the Pontiac. The listings are free, making it easier for organizations, businesses, and individuals to share what’s happening in their communities. Whether it’s a fundraiser, a concert, or a municipal gathering, readers can now submit events directly through our website, helping everyone stay informed and connected.
Another change you’ll notice is on the Editorial page, where we’re now featuring user-submitted photos. These contributions showcase everyday life through the eyes of our readers — the changing seasons, community gatherings, and scenes that make the Pontiac unique. It’s one more way we’re opening our pages to the community and inviting readers to play a more active role in shaping the paper.
Reporter Caleb Nickerson has also launched a new column, Your Province This Week, providing readers with insight into key developments from Quebec City. The goal is to bring provincial news closer to home, highlighting how decisions made at the National Assembly affect life in our region. Caleb’s thoughtful reporting bridges the gap between provincial policy and local impact, helping readers stay informed about the issues that matter most.
Finally, we’ve added a new Bulletin Board section, designed as an affordable way for small businesses to advertise in The Equity. Non-profit organizations can post on the Bulletin Board for free, giving community groups more visibility and reach. It’s a simple, accessible way to keep local business and community activity front and centre in the pages of the paper.
All of these changes reflect a broader commitment — to growth, to quality, and to our readers. As The Equity continues to evolve, we’re focused on building a stronger connection between the paper and the people it serves.
We encourage readers to reach out to subscribe, to send in their events, or to learn more about advertising opportunities. Your support ensures that The Equity remains a vibrant voice for the Pontiac — one that continues to inform, celebrate, and connect our community every week.
