At Calumet Media, we believe in constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity and delivering exceptional visual storytelling. Today, we are thrilled to announce the newest member of our team – Bryan Chen! With his exceptional skills, creativity, and passion for cinematography, Bryan is set to make a significant impact on our projects and enhance our ability to captivate audiences.

Meet Bryan
Bryan was born in Guangdong, China where he developed a passion for the camera at an early age. Eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in Film and Television at the University of East Anglia in the U.K., he continued his education at Hong Kong Baptist University where he graduated as valedictorian with a masters in Fine Arts in Film, TV and Digital Media.
After spending some time in Australia, Bryan and his partner decided to emigrate to Toronto where they launched JR Art Lab to provide classes in digital art and videography. After COVID shut down in-class training, JR Art Lab went completely virtual and Bryan decided to pursue a life-long desire for sustainable living. He and his partner bought a property north of Ladysmith Quebec where they continue to teach remotely while raising animals and discovering the beauty of the MRC Pontiac.

Expertise and Experience
Bryan brings a wealth of videography experience and expertise to our area after working for major media companies in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the UK, Australia and Canada – including Rogers Media’s CityTV Toronto. His technical proficiency, combined with his innate ability to capture emotion and convey powerful narratives, make him a perfect fit for Calumet Media and the work we do with our clients. From conceptualization to filming and post-production, Bryan’s comprehensive skill set allows him to seamlessly bring ideas to life on screen.
While Bryan enjoys the creative challenges of commercial videography, he also finds fulfillment in teaching others. Fifteen years ago, Bryan’s passion for teaching grew when he volunteered to teach primary school-aged children in rural China. As a creative arts teacher in various international schools in Hong Kong, he taught students how to write scripts, draw storyboards and eventually turn their imagination into real films. At JR Art Lab, Bryan is able to fuse his deep industry knowledge with his passion for teaching and apply these skills to every age group he guides.

Video’s Importance to Small Business
In today’s digital age, small businesses have recognized the immense marketing potential of video. With the rise of social media platforms and the increasing consumption of video content, small businesses are leveraging videos to engage with their target audience, promote their products or services, and build brand awareness. While video was once the purview of major brands and big business, the accessibility of video creation tools and platforms has made it easier for small businesses to produce high-quality videos at a fraction of the cost it once was.
Bryan joins Calumet Media at a crucial time where small businesses have begun to harness the visual and emotional impact of video, allowing them to tell compelling stories, demonstrate product functionality, or provide valuable educational content. By harnessing the visual and emotional impact of video, small businesses are expanding their reach, driving customer engagement, and staying ahead in today’s competitive marketplace.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Bryan Chen as the newest member of the Calumet Media family. With his exceptional talent, passion for videography, and commitment to innovation, we are excited to see the incredible projects he will contribute to. As we continue our journey to push the boundaries of digital storytelling, we are confident that Bryan’s presence will bring a new level of creativity and excellence to businesses in the MRC Pontiac.
Stay tuned for the incredible work that awaits us!
